A Berber village trek is a multi-day walk through Amazigh communities in the High Atlas, not a climb of Mount Toubkal. You leave Marrakech, transfer to Imlil (1,740 m), then hike passes and valleys — mainly the Azzaden — and sleep in family guesthouses. Tourism still says “Berber”; the people of these valleys are Amazigh.

What is a Berber village trek?
You walk mule paths between villages: walnut and cherry terraces, irrigation channels, passes with Toubkal in view, and nights in guesthouses. The 2-day hike includes the Ighouliden waterfall. Longer itineraries go deeper — Tiziyane, D'knt, Azib Tamsoult — with more homestay time.

Village trek vs Toubkal summit
- Village trek: Azzaden Valley; guesthouses; cultural walking; no 4,167 m summit on these packs.
- Toubkal trek: Imlil to refuge to summit; overnight in the mountain hut zone; summit day starts before dawn.
Some guests do a village hike first, then a summit later. That is two products, not one listed combo.

Imlil, Tizi M'zik (2,684 m), Ighouliden waterfall, night in Tizi Oussem, return via Tizi Oudid and Aguersioual. About 6 hours walking each day.
3-day private trek
Start at Aguersioual. Nights in Tiziyane and D'knt. Passes include Tizi Oudid, Tizi n'Taghrhourte and Tizi n'Tagdalte.
4-day discovery
Three guesthouse nights, waterfall, school and irrigation visit, Azib Tamsoult pastures (2,400 m), return over Tizi Oudid to Imlil.
What to expect on the trail
Shared start: pickup at your Marrakech hotel or riad (or near the Koutoubia if vehicle access is tight). Transfer to the High Atlas. Meet guide, cook and muleteer. You carry a daypack; mules take the larger bag.
2 days
- Marrakech → Imlil (1,740 m). Trek to Tizi M'zik, picnic at Ighouliden waterfall, night in Tizi Oussem.
- Tizi Oussem → Id Issa → Tizi Oudid (2,000 m) → Aguersioual → Imlil. Lunch. Return to Marrakech.
3 days
- Marrakech → Aguersioual. Tizi Oudid (2,100 m) to Tiziyane. Tea with a local family. Guesthouse night.
- Along the Azzaden to Tizi n'Taghrhourte, then D'knt. Free afternoon in the village.
- D'knt over Tizi n'Tagdalte to Tizi Oussem and Imlil. Lunch. Return to Marrakech.
4 days
- Imlil via Aroumd and Tizi M'zik; waterfall lunch; Tizi Oussem.
- Azzaden hamlets; school and irrigation visit; Tiziyane.
- Past D'knt to Azib Tamsoult (2,400 m).
- Tizi Oudid, Aguersioual, Imlil lunch, Marrakech by late afternoon.
Who is it for?
Walkers who want villages and valleys more than a summit. Consecutive 5–6 hour days on uneven paths. Prior hill walking helps. We do not publish a minimum age; give us ages and fitness when you book.
What to wear and pack
Broken-in hiking boots, layers, sun hat, warm hat, fleece, long trousers, poles if you use them, sleeping bag (comfort 0 °C in winter, lighter in summer), headlamp, sunscreen, sunglasses, two 1.5 L bottles, personal first-aid, bags for waste. Gloves in winter and early spring.
Best time
Spring and autumn are usually the most comfortable for walking and guesthouse evenings. Summer is hot in the valleys. Winter needs warmer kit. Conditions vary; we do not guarantee weather.
